This shed size calculator estimates the dimensions, floor area, and material quantities for a storage shed based on your desired length and width.
How it works:
- Floor area: Length × width = total square footage. A 10×12 shed = 120 sq ft. The IRC exempts sheds under 120-200 sq ft from permits in most jurisdictions, but verify with your local AHJ.
- Wall sheathing: The calculator estimates plywood/OSB sheathing needed to cover the exterior walls based on perimeter and 8-ft wall height.
Example: An 8×10 shed gives 80 sq ft — small enough to avoid permits in most towns, but tight for a workshop. A 10×12 gives 120 sq ft — fits a lawn tractor and shelving.
